Initial tough feedback

One of the major reasons I needed to put this out in a cutdown form is because I wanted to get external opinions on it to see if it was understandable, playable and fun?

This is my first attempt at putting out a PBTA hack and I do have something inside me that is screaming about it not being finished but I have been trying to quieten the perfectionist in me because it often stops me from doing things. I think it’s worse because the idea has sat in my head for a while and been blocked by perfectionism but I am trying to apply a more “Agile” method of creating these things so I never expected the first version I release to be “complete”.

It’s tough to hear when you have worked hard on a project that people don’t understand why it exists but that was the general sense of feedback I have gotten so far. It’s been hard to hear that, I certainly had to not instantly react to it and dig into the feedback by asking questions.

It’s times like this I have to focus on some of the work I have done on my mental health. I had to focus hard on how something someone said had affected me and notice how I wanted to react.

So, given the majority of the feedback I have received so far has been negative and somewhat constructive I have come up with a bit of a plan. In the next few weeks, I will do the following

  • Add back in some more of the content that was removed from the cutdown version
  • Begin to revise the moves for all playbooks to make them more “mechanical”
  • Separate the “Starter Con” from the main ruleset and do some more work on that
  • Produce a single-page version of the PDF because some people find spreads more difficult to read
  • When I export a PDF I ensure links are clickable.

All that said I’m not disheartened so I’ll continue to work on this. Keep the feedback coming.
